Cincy Chic Spotlight interview

Chic Spotlight: Christina Lambert Custom Interiors

by Sara Elliott - Dec 21, 2015

A single mom of three launched a business to set a good example for her kids. See how she’s reeling with success and now designing sets for Hollywood stars.

Cincy Chic: What is Christina Lambert Custom Interiors?

Christina Lambert, Owner of Christina Lambert Custom Interiors: A home-based business that offers interior design and decorating services, that also offers custom-made draperies and upholstery makeovers.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind it?

Lambert: Both my mother and grandmother’s sewed and passed on their love for creating with their hands. Being a single mom of three, I was able to cater the work around my family’s needs, and still have the creative outlet I needed.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind the business?

Lambert: Me. Christina Lambert. Single mother of 3 beautiful girls ages 12, 13 and 14. I also subcontract work as needed for areas I can’t handle such as construction or when a job is too big for one person. The people I hire must have the same attention to detail that upholds the reputation of my work.

Being an outgoing person, and a woman, has helped open doors to meet wonderful people and get to work in a variety of stunning or cozy homes. Many women are more comfortable hiring and working closely with another woman. And having experience as a mother helps me understand some of their needs when it comes to organization and practical decor.

Cincy Chic: When did your launch your interior design business?

Lambert: It started as a small side business in 2000 when I needed extra income in my new marriage. I wasn’t allowed to work outside the home, so I ambitiously built my own business to the point of sustaining my family years later after a divorce. And the business continues to grow!

Cincy Chic: What are some of your greatest accomplishments thus far with the business?

Lambert: Last year after conquering some devastating hurdles in my personal life, I was given the opportunity to sew all the drapes and upholstery for the newly released movie, Carol, which was filmed right here in Cincinnati. My days and nights were spent on set or at the sewing machine, and I averaged 2 to 4 hours of sleep each night for nearly 3 months. But it was worth it! After that, while still working with residential clients, I went on to sew for a few commercials, such as Tidy Cat, and more movies, I Am Wrath, Miles Ahead, A Kind of Murder (formerly known as the Blunderer), The Bye Bye Man and the recent hallmark movie A Christmas Melody. Carol was a godsend, as I was able to pull my little family out of a financial crisis and pursue some of my own personal goals such as paying off my vehicle and buying a sport motorcycle.

This spring I had the amazing chance to be the set decorator for the Beats by Dr Dre commercial featuring Serena Williams, also filmed here in the Queen City.

Aside from all of the credentials and amazing opportunities, I’ve met some fantastic people along the way and built lasting friendships with several of my clientele. But most importantly, this job has helped me provide for my girls and has allowed me to be an active part of their lives and give them the example of what it means to be strong, work hard and do what you love.

Cincy Chic: What types of services do you offer clients?

Lambert: I offer interior design and decorating. Budget decorating and repurposing. Color consulting. Custom made drapes, cornice boards, cushions, duvets and bed skirts, pillows, shams and the like. And custom re-upholstery.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for your business?

Lambert: I hope to direct it more towards decorating. I love spending time working with the clients directly, whether it is shopping or hanging pictures and placing furniture. I enjoy giving them the home they love to live in. I also plan on continuing to work with the film industry. I could see myself on more set decorating in the future. As well, I plan to supply a few custom upholstered vintage pieces for sale to a few local businesses for resale, or from me directly to the customer.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?

Lambert: I often post recent projects to Facebook. Readers can contact me at

(513) 310-4381 or by emailing cml.interiors@yahoo.com. Search IMDB under “Christina Lambert” lists my film work. And keep an eye out when you see the new movie CAROL. A lot of my handiwork is featured throughout the film.
